                                                            Answer any five questions.

1. What are the different types of database end users? Also define the term data model. Give at least three data models and briefly explain them.

2. Explain different E-R modeling styles and the symbols used. Also draw E-R diagram for Departmental store. Determine the entities of interest and the relationship between the entities.

3. What is view? List two reasons why are may choose to define a view? Also, explain the following relational algebra operations with their notations- PROJECTION , INTERSECTION and DIVISION.

4. Define SQL. How can constraints and indexes be specified in SQL?  Also, write and explain the data definition commands in SQL with example.

5. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of Network Data model. Write down different Data manipulation languages used for Network model.

6. Explain the different terms with example: 
   (a) HSAM
   (b) HISAM
   (c) HDAM
   (d) IHS
   (e) HIDAM

7. Why it is necessary to Normalize the data? Also describe the 1NF, 2NF and 3NF giving suitable example.

8. Explain the concept of loss less join and Dependency Preserving decomposition giving suitable example. Also, how can database recovery be done from catastrophic failure?

9. Describe various concurrency control techniques. Also, discuss the advantages and disadvantages of centralized time stamping and distributed time sharing. 

10. Write short notes on any four of the following:
      (a) Data warehousing  and data Mining
      (b) Locking Techniques
      (c) Demoralization
      (d) Hierarchical Data model
      (e) Oracle / MS - SQL Server
      (f) Data Dictionary and BCNF
