Answer any five questions.
1. What is Computer network? What are the advantages and disadvantages of computer network? Explain.
2. Describe about analog and digital signal. Explain about the some of the factors that determine whether a communication system is a LAN, MAN or WAN.
3. What do you mean by transmission mode? Explain the two modes for transmitting binary data across a link. Compare the two methods of serial transmission with advantages and disadvantages.
4. Discuss OSI model. Describe about the different layers of OSI model.
5. What is binary synchronous communication protocol? How do the three HDLC frame types differ from one another?
6. Define and explain the data link layer in IEEE project 802. Why this layer divided into sub-layer?
7. What is packet switching? Differentiate between packet switching and circuit switching. What are the various switching methods?
8. Discuss TCP/IP. How do the layers of TCP/IP protocol suite correlate to the layers of OSI Model?
9. What are the basic function of the data link layer? Write down the basic features of HDLC Protocol? Could HDLC be used as a data link protocol for a LAN? Justify your answer.
